We began learning about money in Year 1 this week.
We began with looking at coins and examining their features before a challenge!
What coins do I have in my hands?
Do they sound big? Do they sound narrow? Children wrote/drew their ideas on their own mini whiteboards, before the reveal…
Afterwards, it was time to create some price tag coin rubbings to add to our mini supermarket shopping play area.
To buy an item at our supermarket, children will need the displayed coin/s to exchange for the item.

Another little money play area was also set up to provoke sorting, identifying and recognising coin values.
